Master Personal Trainer Edmonton

I studied at Rhodes University and have my masters degree in kinesiology and ergonomics. I am a master personal trainer in Edmonton and fitness coach affiliated with Travis Wade Fitness. I was also part of the sports physiotherapy crew that worked with the Zimbabwe Rugby National team during the Victoria Cup 2019. According to my colleagues I am very gifted with elite coaching skills and according to many of them I am the best personal trainer in Edmonton.

Why I Do What I Do

Like honesty and kindness; fitness is a value to me. I started working out to look good but my reasons for exercise evolved and continue to change. As the seasons change and as the days change, so does the focus of my workouts. It’s an ongoing journey. Exercise increased my self-esteem and continues to. It’s an ongoing process and everyday is different. I get 1% better everyday. When I don’t workout, I don’t feel as good and when I start back up, balance is restored.

In my 7 years of working as a fitness and movement professional, I have observed in myself and others that the will to move to improve health is vulnerable to decline when life gets in the way. Said differently, we include exercise as a way to get in shape, develop a healthy balance, and feel good, but sticking to that habit of exercise is the main hurdle.

The motivation for me to stick with the habit of exercise has been mental health. I have been through hard times and sports and working out has pulled me through. Tennis has been a big thing for me; it’s a strong mental game and I have to stay focused. I want to motivate people to keep an active lifestyle and promote exercise for others as well.

I feel the need to get people to transform and to see people make changes. The community aspect is great also, and I have to be the guy who walks the talk. I have lots to learn and I want to keep learning. I know I could benefit from being a part of the team and I can bring things to the team as well.

How I Do What I Do

I believe it’s important to get people to be better versions of themselves, not bikini bodies, but a better human. I like training in a sports environment because when people want to lose weight or gain strength it comes naturally. People that want to get better at what they are already doing; that’s where my training comes in. I get to use my skills helping someone get active, not to mention, getting them to exercise as a habit. It comes so naturally to me to train people in a high athletic environment.

The range in the fitness of the people I train is huge. The satisfaction is the same for the athlete and the beginner.  Being able to be flexible as a trainer is what I like. The range helps a trainer be more rounded and help people more effectively.

I am comfortable with training in no specific area and able to take on whatever comes at me. I am getting a few more accolades to understand strength and conditioning more and more; knowledge with all lifting and exercise. I broaden my scope of knowledge and am more comfortable with what I do and do what I love everyday. I feel like I’m in a place where I belong and I get excited about what I do everyday.

From my experience working with many clients over the years, I recognize that staying motivated and sticking with the program is not easy. That’s why my motto is ‘one day at a time’, and the aim is ‘ get better just 1% everyday’. Imagine how much % that would be in a couple months? Couple years?

Training with me gets exciting because of my unique way of customizing movements to each person and finding what works for each person. Given my experience working in rehabilitation, clients get to learn safe training habits that promote injury prevention. I also use corrective exercise to fix any other issues so that clients/athletes can train all year round injury-free. You will also learn how to diversify your ‘movement portfolio’ from not only weight lifting in the gym but discovering other activities to include in your routine to make you a well-rounded lifestyle athlete.

What I Do

My area of specialty is functional movement training. A discipline I  often describe as ‘training for the lifestyle athlete!’ We tend to look at fitness as a way to achieve physical body transformations, but if fitness is applied as a consistent lifestyle habit plenty more outcomes could be realized out of it including; self-discipline, self-respect, self-esteem, high self regard, positive body image, positive influence on others, positive energy and vibes always, just to name a few.

That is why my main focus is to support and coach individuals who are motivated to make lasting changes to their health and wellness, by developing them into lifestyle athletes. As athletes their goals evolve from short term changes and turn into long term transformations where movement becomes a consistent lifestyle habit. From training to look good in the summer, to training towards always staying in shape.
